Smell of the Ring

Guest post by Tom Webb, Head of Communications at Caterham F1 Team

GE being a Premium Partner to the Caterham F1 Team has some upsides many can benefit from. For example we could invite 10 journalists from CEE to meet the Team yesterday. As the Hungarian Grand Prix is the only championship in the region this occasion was unique. The media met the engineers supporting the Team and talked about how existing GE technologies can help their work and what new technologies they dream about. They also met with the drivers. Looking forward to reading their articles about the experience. Below please find an exclusive message from the Caterham Team.

CEE@Olympics – What’s Your Drive?

Mine is to get through the finish line, to get over tiredness and doubt to win. As an active athlete, an “Ironman” I know how much work lies behind every stroke you take and every mile you make. At the Olympics, you pay attention to athletic performance. But for once, please look further and experience an amazing glimpse at engineering perfection. It makes me proud that thousands of GE engineers work across the globe on making technology better every day. It is the result of their imagination and work that GE has been able to provide some of the technologies for the Olympics. Please be amazed when you watch the Games as the best infrastructure technologies of our century secure the conditions athletes can compete in.

CEE@Olympics – Polish Success Story – Four Golds in Atlanta

Guest post by Michał Pol, journalists of Gazeta Wyborcza daily

As a reporter working for “Gazeta Wyborcza” I had the unique opportunity to witness many touching moments of glory of Polish sportsmen. For example, I was lucky enough to see with my own eyes Adam Małysz’s first Four Hills Tournament triumph at the Innsbruck Hill, which spurred the explosion of the so-called “Małyszomania” social phenomenon. I was the one Adam told about the already iconic “bun and banana” meals. However, all these events were totally eclipsed by the emotions I felt during the first days of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. And I do not mean only the fact that this was the very first Olympic Games I had an opportunity to watch, or that it was the 100th anniversary of the first Modern Era Olympics held in Athens.

The Right Energy Mix

Guest post by Ziemowit Iwański, Region Executive, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy

Representing 6.1% of the overall value of foreign direct investment to Poland and employing more than 180,000 people, US companies have shown their collective belief in the potential of the Polish economy. These impressive figures were presented at the US-Poland Business Summit that was held in Warsaw on June 20 at the Copernicus Science Center. The Summit was a much-awaited international trade and investment event, which gathered high-level officials and private sector representatives from the US and Poland. It was an excellent opportunity not only to look back on both countries’ economic cooperation, but more importantly to draw business lines for the future.

Power of Self Confidence and Networks

“I never used to see myself as a business person, but the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program inspired me and gave me enough self confidence to start my own company, making software for some very big clients. It really changed my mind set,” said Tomas Kaczmarczyk, student in mathematics from Poland and one of the speakers at the 10th anniversary of the GE Foundation’s university scholarship program.

What is the Potential of CEE?

John Rice, Vice Chairman and President and CEO of GE’s Global Growth and Operations, recently visited Warsaw.   One of the highlights of the trip was an employee all hands session held at the Warsaw GE Engineering and Design Center (EDC). Topics discussed included the company’s global growth strategy and the business potential in Poland and the broader region in general.
