Eco-friendly is the Name of the Game in Veresegyház
Guest post by Béla Pásztor, Mayor of Veresegyház
The end of November was a truly memorable part of 2011 in the life of Veresegyház I have been leading for more than 45 years. A timely completion of a recent thermal project changed the life of some business entities in my city, including the GE Energy and the GE Aviation plants, and public institutions that will use cost-efficient energy for heating from now on. The new heating system was inaugurated at GE’s plant with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Thermal heating pipelines were connected in the city on the 11th of November, replacing gas heating to help reduce utility bills. This initiative is advantageous for both the city and the participating companies: the heating method does not generate any exhaust products, so it prevents harmful substances from entering the atmosphere. This system also helps companies and the city become cleaner and greener.

Balázs Somogyi of GE Energy and József Kosik, Vice Mayor of Veresegyház at the inauguration
Balázs Somogyi of GE Energy said: “I am proud that the official hand-over ceremony of the well-known thermal water project between the city of Veresegyház and GE was completed. This project was launched in 2009, after an initial discussion and we have already been using thermal resources since mid-October 2011. Thermal heating is a perfect fit because it makes our operations more energy-efficient and more environmentally-friendly. It will also result in major savings.”
The project was financially supported by the Hungarian government and the European Union, as well as our local government. The deployment of the new thermal heating will serve about seven other companies and organizations, like Csonkasi Kindergarten, Fabriczius Jozsef Primary School, the Mayor’s Office and the Presbyterian Primary School, significally reducing their costs and improving their environmental performance. Both factors will make them more which is also in the best interest of my town.
We hope to manage many other eco-friendly projects in the near future, and will still count on the support of companies like GE.
Finally, let me thank all our supporters who worked hard in order to finish this project through this internationally recognized platform and take the opportunity to showcase this cooperation between a local town and a global company.

This is a great initiative!! Superb example of GE working with local communities as our key stakeholders on joint projects like this for improvement of their towns/cities! Corporate social responsibility is truely manifested here. Congratulations both to GE Energy and to Veresegyhaz!

This is a great Eco friendly project. Our Aviation site in Veresegyhaz expects to consume 40% less natural gas and to cut our CO2 creation by 7.5% as a result of it.
