From Stadium to Streets

Guest post by Cristian Colteanu, GE President & CEO for Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova and Lesław Kuzaj, GE CEO for Central Europe

Participation and results at the Olympics have been high on the agenda of the countries in our region since modern Olympics. We all know how many gold medals our fellow athletes won last time and we talk about how many our countries will win in London. But we rarely think about what the Olympic Games bring to the table when it comes to testing the 21st century approach to cities.

GE Lighting is supplying around 14,000 lamps for London 2012 to be used in the back-of house function areas of the Olympic Stadium

GE, as one of the 11 global sponsors of the Games, would like to draw your attention to this other side of the Olympic story. The recently published poll of UK and Brazil, the latter being the location of the 2016 Olympics, analyzes the perceptions of the infrastructural legacy built for the Games, putting the deployment of sustainable, modern technologies to the test. According to the survey conducted by Future Poll, the research department of Future Laboratory, awareness and consensus on what sustainable ecosystems actually mean for the world are highly important. The Olympics is a global event that pulls 200 nations together! It really is an outstanding opportunity for companies and organizers to work together and for others to learn from the results. Moreover, stakeholders in our region are invited to join this discussion on the legacy of the Games in London and implement their learning from now on.
