Ivan Hutter

General Manager
GE Lighting Europe ME & A
Budapest, Hungary
What is your expertise?
I have 21 years of experience working for corporate America equally divided between three industries Aviation, Lighting (GE) and Automotive (Ford). My expertise is in business leadership roles managing P&L’s, product lines or global commercial operations.
Where did you receive your education?
I hold two M.Sc degrees, an engineering degree from Hungary and Management degree from the US.
How long have you been at GE?
I have been working for GE for 16 years in the Aviation and the Lighting businesses. Of these 14 years have been at global headquarters in the US. My current position with GE Lighting is the 7th assignment with GE and the 4th business leadership role.
Have you always worked and lived in CEE?
I grew up in Budapest but I spent most of my corporate career, 17 years in the USA in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Detroit.
What do you do for the community?
I was volunteer with the US Air Force Auxiliary during most of my GE tenure in the USA. As an Airline Transport rated pilot, I volunteered in search and rescue and disaster relief operations as senior mission pilot.
What is the one thing that would help CEE to leapfrog?
CEE has a very talented and motivated workforce driven by rich culture and a great public education system. The region needs maximize this asset and attract high tech R&D that translates to tangible product and export revenue. Multi-nationals can play a big role here if well supported by government initiatives and cooperation. There is intense competition for such investments in the global marketplace and a balanced economic policy focused on attracting the blue chip R&D while supporting local small-midsized enterprise could be the most effective way to leapfrog.
