Celebrate your 50th in Style

As our readers know the Prague-Letnany based company is the only place outside the US where GE Aviation develops aircraft engines and H80 is the first turboprop engine in the history of GE Aviation that has been designed and manufactured outside the United States. The 50th engine is now heading to American Trush Co., a light agricultural aircrafts producer. Thrush´ s 510G agricultural aircraft is the first aircraft to enter service with the H80 engine.

Rising Star in the Russian Sky

”I am really pleased that Czech – Russian cooperation in aviation is growing dynamically and the number of Czech aircraft in the Russian sky is growing,” said I. D. Irinich, General Director Deputy of the 2nd Arkhangelsk Aviation Company, one of GE Aviation’s customers in Russia, at the very first Russian Customer Advisory Board meeting. The meeting was held by GE Aviation in Moscow recently and was a great opportunity for us to talk to our customers from different parts of the country and beyond, as they came from Yakutsk, Kamchatka, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Archangelsk, Kazakhstan and other places. The opening speech of Jan Krs, Head of Economic Section at the Czech Embassy in Moscow, emphasized the close cooperation between Russia and the Czech Republic.

Fly Avio

GE recently announced an agreement to purchase of the aviation business of Avio S.p.A., an Italy-based manufacturer of aviation propulsion components and systems for civil and military aircraft. GE plans to pursue new opportunities for Avio in power-generation, oil, and marine products.

”Baby Engines” – Just Born

Only six months have passed since the EASA certification of GE Aviation H80 new engine and the aviation media star known as the first GE engine developed and designed outside the US in the Czech Republic, has already two newborn successors – H75 and H85 turboprop derivates. The two new engines have been just launched at 2012 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin, the greatest international gathering of aviation enthusiasts held in the US.

Creating Technology for Global Markets in CEE

The 12th anniversary of the Engineering Design Center Polska (EDC), officially celebrated in April, is proof of the very fruitful cooperation between GE and the Institute of Aviation, as well as their joint success. Although the decision to start the cooperation was not free of some anxiety and potential risks, one can now say without hesitation that the EDC responded positively to all challenges.

GE Aviation Expands in Russia

Let me share with you some great news from the Czech GE Aviation regarding our activities in the Russian market. Sokol JSC, a leading service provider known throughout the Russian Federation, has signed an agreement with GE Aviation to become an Authorized Service Center (ASC) for GE’s M601 and H80 turboprop aircraft engines. The agrement allows our business to extend its services to Russia and to get even more support in the CIS region.

Regional Takeoff

Many Boeing airplanes have at least one component made in Romania. The first GE Aviation engine designed and produced outside the US comes from the Czech Republic. And the Boeing 787, the current celebrity among airplanes, is powered by a GEnx engine partly created in Poland. In addition, components for GE, CFMI, and Rolls Royce Engines are repaired in Hungary. The CEE region plays a key role in the global business success of GE Aviation.

Remember and Prepare

GE Company Polska and the Warsaw Institute of Aviation offer Scholarship Program to commemorate the victims of the Smolensk crash that happened two years ago.  The scholarship is financed from a special grant that GE Aviation and GE Energy funded after the tragedy to be used for a cause benefiting Polish citizens. The Warsaw Institute of Aviation matched that grant with additional funding, increasing the total amount.

New Turboprop Engine Certified

„This is really just a beginning. My vision is that we create a center of excellence around turboprop engines here in Prague, along with the rest of our network of engineering and manufacturing capabilities,” says David Joyce, President and CEO at GE Aviation in Prague. On March 14, 2012 GE Aviation’s new H80 turboprop engine received type certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), paving the way for the engine to enter service in more applications, including the Thrush 510G aircraft. On December 13, 2011, the new engine had officially been launched and representatives of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) handed over their type certification.
